FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Vanderbilt track team capped off the 2010 indoor season with the final day of the SEC Indoor Championships.
Junior Rita Jorgensen finished three seconds shy of 8th place in the mile, narrowly missing a point-scoring opportunity for the Commodores. Jorgensen finished 9th with a time of 4:58.48.
"I thought the women competed well this weekend," distances coach Steve Keith commented. "I'm proud of Rita for her effort in the mile and then coming back to lead off the DMR. Everyone on the DMR was definitely up for the challenge and they battled hard."
Vanderbilt finished with five points for the Championships, which ties Vanderbilt's performance from last indoor season. Potomac, Md. native Hannallah, named the team's Most Improved during the 2009 cross country season, contributed to all five of Vanderbilt's points.
Vanderbilt will take the next few weeks to prepare for the outdoor season, which begins with the Vanderbilt Black and Gold on March 26 and 27.
"Now we have a couple of weeks to recharge and rebuild toward the outdoor season. We look for bigger and better performances from all of the women," Keith noted. SEC Indoor Championships--February 28, 2010 Vanderbilt Results One mile run final: 9. Rita Jorgensen (VU): 4:58.48
