NASHVILLE, Tenn. - With SEC Tournament semifinal appearances behind them the men's and women's tennis teams now await the announcement of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The men's announcement is set for 4 p.m. local time, with the women's announcement following shortly after at 4:30 p.m. Both selection shows will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
The field of 64 teams, made up of the 31 conference tournament champions and 33 at-large bids will be announced Tuesday afternoon on NCAA.com. The at-large teams are determined upon by the NCAA committee.
There are 16 regional sites, which will host the first and second round play of the NCAA tournament. The top 16 teams in the nation will receive a bid to host the opening rounds. The 16 regional site winners will advance in the 2014 NCAA Tournament to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
The Vanderbilt men hosted in 2013 for the first time since 2003 and were the No. 16 overall seed in the tournament. The Commodores picked up wins over ETSU and Illinois in Nashville to advance to the sweet 16 for the first time since 2004.
The Vanderbilt women were at the Clemson regional in 2013, and fell to the host Tigers in the second round match. The Commodore women haven't hosted a regional since 2008.
