Commodores finish day one of ITA regionals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Vanderbilt women's tennis team concluded the first day of main draw action advancing all five singles players on to Sunday's action, at The Racquet Club of Memphis Saturday.
The day started off with two first round wins in doubles play by Sydney Campbell and Ashleigh Antal, and Marie Casares and Frances Altick. Georgina Sellyn and Maggie Leavell dropped their opening match to fifth-seeded Fellerhoff/Shine of Louisville, 8-2.
Vandy's two doubles teams to advance to the round of sixteen were then eliminated. Casares and Altick lost to top-seeded Kapitany and Schmidt of Purdue, 8-1. Seventh-seeded Campbell/Antal dropped their match, 8-4, to Witten/Dieters of Kentucky.
Only four of the eight seeded doubles teams advanced to Sunday's quarterfinal action.
All five of the Commodore singles players advanced to Sunday's round of 32.
Vanderbilt's top-seeded singles player, No. 71 and third seed Georgina Sellyn, was the only 'Dore to go all three sets in her match. The native of Gasgow, Scotland won the first set 6-4, then dropped the second 3-6 to Alex Brinker of Xavier. Sellyn took total control of the third and final set, winning 6-0 to take the match.
Eighth-seeded Casares continued her dominant fall play, making quick work of Austin Peay's Omella Di Salvo, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Vandy's 9-16 seeds, Campbell (11), Antal (13) and Altick (14) all won, as well, to advance.
Sunday's action will start with doubles at 8 a.m., singles will begin at 9:30 a.m.
