Men's and women's tennis receive ITA Rankings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore Gonzales Austin is ranked No. 26 in the ITA Preseason rankings according to the 2012 Campbell/ITA Division I Preseason Rankings that were released in addition to the ITA Men's All-American Championships.

Austin finished his freshman campaign with a record of 21-14, while also receiving Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team honors.

Austin and redshirt junior Ryan Lipman both received recognition and have qualified for the ITA Men’s All-American Championships, which will be held in Tulsa, Okla., beginning on Sept. 29 and going through Oct. 7.

For the sixth-straight year, the University of Tulsa will be the site of the ITA Men's All-American Championships. The tournament kicks off with prequalifying matches starting on September 29, while the main draw is set to begin on October 4. 

Lipman returns to the court after missing all of last season due to injury.

The Vanderbilt duo of Austin and Lipman are also ranked 22nd in the preseason doubles rankings.

Casares, Mira in Preseason Rankings

Vanderbilt women’s tennis members Marie Casares and Lauren Mira are ranked No. 59 and No. 61 in the Campbell/ITA Division I Women's Preseason Rankings.

Casares enters her sophomore season after an impressive freshman season in which she finished with a record of 23-9 and 9-2 in SEC play. Mira, a junior, led the Commodores in wins last season with an overall record of 28-11, while earning Second Team All-Conference honors.

Casares and fellow sophomore Ashleigh Antal head into the season as the potential top doubles team on the squad as they are ranked No. 51 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings.

Along with the ITA preseason rankings, the selections for the 2012 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships were also announced.

For the 28th year, the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, CA, will serve as the host site for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The national event is set to being on Saturday, Sept. 29 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches, which will once again be hosted by UCLA. Main draw action is slated for Thursday, Oct. 4-Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Riviera Tennis Club.

Casares and Mira are among the qualifying singles for the All-American Championships, while the pair of Antal and Casares have made it as qualifying doubles.
