Carmel Cup 1st Day Results
Sept. 1, 2012 The first day of the second annual Carmel Cup is in the books, with the Commodores splitting their opening round match with Texas Tech at the Old Bayonet Golf Club, and dropping a 5.5 to .5 decision to TCU in the afternoon session at Pebble Beach. TCU leads the four-team medal-match play tournament with a total of 8.5 points. Texas Tech is second at 6.5, Texas A&M has five points, and the Commodores have 3.5 points. Vanderbilt will play Texas A&M on Sunday in their final match at Pebble Beach. "We played well this morning, and I was happy with how the guys handled themselves and we did some good things," said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. "Will Snipes makes an eight-footer on his last hole to win his match, Zach Jaworski was one-under on his last few holes to win his match, and Ben Fogler was solid all day long, got us a point and a half and played really well. Those are things we can build on. "I felt like this afternon, we showed a little bit of our inmaturity as a team, we were on the golf course for a long time, almost 12 hours. We let our minds slip away from us, and we didn't stay focused. We weren't resilient, like we talked about all week, and we let some outside things clutter our mind. We just didn't do a good job of handling adversity. That was disappointing, but I think we'll be ready to go tomorrow. We play a top ten team in Texas A&M, and it will be a good opportunity for us. All we can control is what we do." Morning Round vs. Texas Tech
Vanderbilt (3), Texas Tech (3) In the other match, TCU knocked off Texas A&M, 3.5 to 2.5. TCU: Julien Brun (70) defeated Cameron Peck (72) Afternoon Session TCU claimed the afternoon session, 5.5 to .5, over the Commodores as both teams finished in the dark. Sophomore Ben Fogler was the lone Commodore golfer to score at Pebble Beach. TCU 5.5, Vanderbilt .5 Texas Tech claimed the other match at Pebble Beach, 3.5 to 2.5. TTU 3.5, TAMU 2.5
