June 25, 2012
Former Vanderbilt shortstop Anthony Gomez was named to the All-South Region's second team for his stellar 2012 season.
Gomez led the Commodores' offense all season, leading the team in multiple offensive categories - .353 average, 57 RBI, 90 hits - while starting every game for the second straight season to push his total to 177 straight starts. The junior posted his second straight 90-hit season and broke into the top five on the school's career hits list, moving into fourth place all-time with 267 hits in his three-year career. The two-time, first team All-SEC performer finished his Vandy career with the fifth-best career batting average with a .354 career average.
The Southeastern Conference was well represented on the two teams with 17 members.
The Miami Marlins selected Gomez in the sixth round and signed the infielder earlier this month. Gomez is playing for the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League in his first professional action.
