MADISON, Wisc. - The Vanderbilt Women's Cross Country team put themselves into the national conversation with a second place finish at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational today, beating nineteen Top-30 schools in the weekend's largest race.

With 211 points, the Commodores came in only 12 points shy of first place finisher Washington.

"It's as close to a perfect race as we could get in this field, with this quality," said a very pleased head coach Steve Keith. "They handled the pressure without it even really showing."

Alexa Rogers continued her stellar senior season, placing first for the Dores with a 17th overall finish. The senior has now twice led her team in races this season, after pacing her squad at the Roy Griak Invitational.

Jordan White, who finished third for the Dores with a 45th place time of 20:55, set the pace early for Vanderbilt. "Jordan did a lot of work early helping to get the group out," said Keith of his junior runner.

White and Louise Hannallah, two of the so-called "Three Musketeers" runners on the team, ran together, with Hannallah a second behind White in the finish. Sophomore Liz Anderson finished second, having worked up to and then breaking away from White and Hannallah late in the race for a 35th overall finish.

Michigan State transfer Kristen Smith was a strong fifth runner for the Commodores, finishing 68th overall with a 6K time of 21:09.

"They ran a beautiful race," said Keith.

The Wisconsin Adidas Invitational had 305 competitors in the 6K women's race, and has been considered one of the top races on the team's schedule.
