USATF Junior Championships Results
NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt freshman jumper Sophia Falco will compete in the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships this weekend looking for her second school record in the last month.
Falco, from Lakewood Ranch, Fla., will compete in two events at the junior nationals: the long jump on Saturday and triple jump on Sunday.
The meet, which will be staged at the Haugh Track & Field Complex on the University of Indiana campus, serves as the nation’s Under 20 national-qualifying competition. The American junior squad will travel to Finland in July for the IAAF World U20 Championships.
On Saturday, Falco looks to expand her long jump school record of 6.06 meters (19-10.75). She set the new team standard at the Southeastern Conference Track & Field Championship in May.
Falco will return Sunday hoping to add to her collegiate personal best in the triple jump. She became the second longest Commodore ever in the triple jump at the SEC meet with a leap of 12.43 meters (40-9.50).
Denk earns USTFCCCA Second-Team All-America recognition
Sophomore pole vaulter Kristen Denk was named a second-team All-America earlier this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Denk, who established a new outdoor school record at the clearance of 4.30 meters (14-1.25) in April, earned the All-America recognition after finishing in a tie for 12th place at the NCAA Championships on June 7.
