Accompanied by applause, cheers and gold shakers, Vanderbilt freshman Simone Charley left campus on Wednesday morning and began making her way to Eugene, Oregon, for the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

The vocal group of supporters at her send-off included Vanderbilt athletics director David Williams, head football coach Derek Mason, and a large collection of other faculty, staff and friends.

Charley will be in action on Friday at 5:25 p.m. CST at the Championships, which begin Wednesday afternoon and run through Saturday.

Charley qualified for the Championships in the triple jump at last month’s NCAA East Preliminary with a school-record jump of 43-1.
