NASHVILLE -- The Vanderbilt track and field program hosted the annual Great 8 Meet on Tuesday, April 16, at the Vanderbilt Track. The event brought in the top eight high school athletes from the Middle Tennessee region in several events.
Athlete of the Meet honors went to Brittany Kelly of Northeast and Jalen Ramsey of Brentwood Academy.
Kelly won three events on the day (the maximum number of events an individual athlete can compete in is three). She won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.58, while winning the 300 meter hurdles in 44.92. Kelly won the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, edging teammate Sonjia White by seven inches.
Ramsey won a pair of field events and capped the evening with a win in the 200 meters. He won the triple jump with a mark of 46 feet, 7.5 inches, while winning the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 10.5 inches. He then won the 200 meters in 21.87, crossing the line just .04 seconds before teammate D'Montre Wade.
