Vanderbilt junior high jumper Brionne Williams has qualified for and will compete in the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the high jump. The event takes place this Friday, March 8, in Fayetteville, Ark.
Williams posted a top jump this season of 1.83 meters this season at the Indiana Relays and was 14th among the 16 qualifiers in the event. The event will take place on Friday at 3:15 p.m. CT.
VUCommodores.com caught up with Williams before she left for Fayetteville.
Vanderbilt Head Coach Steve Keith was just as pleased.
"Brionne has been right on the edge the last year or two and has worked real hard, so it's a great reward for her to get a chance to compete with the elite," Keith said. "With only 16 making it, it's a very challenging number.
Williams becomes the first Vanderbilt athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoor meet since Josie Hahn placed sixth in the pentathlon in 2005.
The meet will be streamed via a combination of ArkansasRazorbacks.com and ESPN3.com. Check the meet central link at the top of this page for more information on broadcast schedules and the entire 2013 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.
