Nov. 30, 2011
Vanderbilt head coach Geoff Macdonald announced the signing of Courtney Colton to a National Letter of Intent to play women’s tennis for the Commodores. Colton, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, is ranked in the top fifteen nationally, and is considered a blue chip prospect by TennisRecruiting.com. She is a two-time Florida state champion in both singles and doubles. A protégé of the highly regarded coach Nick Saviano, Colton boasts a 53-19 record in 2011.
“We are excited to have a player of Courtney Colton’s caliber join our team. She has a very solid game and competes exceptionally well. She impressed us very much at the Nationals.”
Macdonald said that Colton was drawn to Vanderbilt because of her desire to become a teacher. “Courtney loved the excellence of our Education School. She is an ideal student-athlete.”
Colton is the daughter of Scott and Tracy Colton. Her older sister, Erin, plays tennis at West Point, while her younger brother, Chase, is a nationally ranked junior.
