NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After a dominating performance at the Furman Fall Classic, two 'Dores will represent the Vanderbilt women's tennis team at the 2013 Riviera/ITA All-American Championship this week. Senior Lauren Mira and junior Courtney Colton have been chosen by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) to participate in the singles qualifying draw and the doubles main draw, at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The qualifying rounds are also comprised of a singles draw of 64 and a doubles draw of 32. A singles player or doubles tandem must win three consecutive matches to stay alive and move into the main draw. Eight spots in the singles main draw are reserved for qualifiers, while the doubles main draw will feature four teams from qualifying. Singles semifinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, NY. Qualifying singles play will begin Tuesday morning at 10:45 a.m., with main draw doubles action starting up Thursday, October 3.
Mira will play her opening round singles match against Caroline Rohde-Moe of Ole Miss. Rohde-Moe is ranked in the 9-16 seeds for the tournament, along with being the 39th-ranked singles player in the ITA preseason poll. Mira, ranked 51st by the ITA, will look to continue off her undefeated weekend and qualify for a spot in the singles main draw.
