Tennis opens season at Furman Fall Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Vanderbilt women's tennis team opens the 2013 fall season on Friday at the Furman Fall Classic. The tournament, in its 27th season, will be held at the Mickel Tennis Center on Furman's campus in Greenville, S.C. The eight team tournament will feature top talent from around the country.
Vanderbilt who last year finished ranked 19th in the nation, will be one of six teams ranked in the top 34 from last season.
The Commodores made it to their 19th-straight NCAA tournament last year before falling in the second round to Clemson.
Newcomer Sydney Campbell will see her first collegiate action in possibly the toughest singles flight of the tournament. Following her opening round, Campbell could potentially match up against the No.28 singles player out of Alabama, Mary Ann Daines. Other ranked singles players in the flight are No. 46 Daneika Borthwick of Florida State and Meghan Blevins of South Carolina.
The sixth-ranked doubles team of Mira and Colton will face Kanakova and Daily of South Carolina in the opening round with potential match ups against No. 56 Henderson/Williams of Tennessee and No. 16 Routliffe/Daines of Alabama.
The tournament will be held over the course of the weekend, each days action kicking off at 9:00 a.m.
