W. Tennis ranked in preseason poll

Nashville, Tenn. - As the fall season approaches, members of the Vanderbilt women's tennis team have been recognized in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings.

Senior Courtney Ulery and junior Catherine Newman were named to the ITA preseason singles rankings. Newman is ranked No. 40, while Ulery is ranked No. 56.

Ulery finished the spring season ranked No. 77 by ITA after posting a 16-9 dual record while Newman closed out the year ranked No. 51, following a 15-8 spring campaign.

In doubles play, the duo of Ulery and Newman enter the season ranked No. 35 by the ITA. The tandem has yet to team up together in doubles competition. Last season, the tandem of Ulery and All-American Amanda Taylor advanced to the NCAA doubles tournament while Newman teamed up with former seniors Taka Bertrand and Caroline Ferrell.

The Commodores open the fall season Sept. 26-28, at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C.
