NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt's women's tennis team has added even more depth and experience to its already talented roster with the addition of Ellie Yates, a transfer from Southern California.
Yates arrives at Vanderbilt as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining, and can begin playing immediately for the Commodores.
A native of Ridgeland, Miss., Yates was 27-11 in singles play over two seasons at USC, where she primarily played at the No. 6 position.
"We are thrilled that she is coming to Vanderbilt because she is a phenomenal athlete, who is a proven winner," Vanderbilt Head Coach Geoff Macdonald said. "She is a lefty with really good speed and with a lot of potential to improve her game."
Yates prepped at Jackson Academy, where she was a top-10 recruit and won six state championships playing at the No. 1 singles position from seventh grade to senior year.
Vanderbilt is coming off a season in which it ended the year ranked No. 11 and advanced to the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament.
