May 16, 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Lauren Mira has been named the ITA Ohio Valley Region Player to Watch, it was announced Thursday afternoon.

The Player to Watch honor is given to a player who has not yet won the regional singles championship and is expected to play a significant role on the national college tennis scene next season.

By winning the regional award, Mira is eligible for the ITA National Player to Watch Award that will be handed out next week.

The Baton Rouge, La., native helped lead the Commodores to the NCAA Tournament for the 19th-straight season. Mira played in the No. 1 singles and doubles position during the dual season and finished the season ranked No. 63 in singles and No. 12 in doubles with Courtney Colton.

Mira has put together a career record of 71-37 through her first three seasons on campus.

Mira and Colton will represent the Commodores in the NCAA Doubles Championships, May 22-27, in Urbana, Ill. The Vandy duo are one of 32 doubles teams to make up the tournament field.
