Dvorak named SEC Player of the Week

Summer Dvorak was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Dvorak clinched Vanderbilt’s 4-3 comeback victory over No. 10 Florida to ensure the Dores’ their second-straight SEC Regular Season Championship and No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament. Down 4-1 in the third set, Dvorak took five straight games to clinch Vanderbilt’s second straight SEC regular season title, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.  Against SC, Dvorak leveled the overall match score to 2-all with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court five over Megan Davies.

Dvorak went undefeated on the weekend in singles and doubles, and sits undefeated in singles and doubles since March 31. She was first off the court in doubles against South Carolina (6-0) and Florida (6-1). Dvorak/Contreras gave up one game on the weekend and three games over the entire month of April.



The singles victory over UF was Summer’s fourth-straight victory. The Commodores went 2-0 against top-10 teams this weekend, and own an eight-match winning streak. Vandy owns six top-10 wins this season as well as 11 top-25 victories.

Dvorak and the rest of the Commodore contingent begin SEC tournament play this week, taking on either Kentucky or Texas A&M on Friday at 2 p.m. CT in Knoxville, Tenn.
