It’ll be a rival weekend as the Tennessee Lady Vols and Georgia Bulldogs come to town to play the Vanderbilt Commodores on Friday and Sunday as SEC play continues.
The No. 25 Commodores slid from the No. 23 spot after splitting last weekend’s matches with a 5-2 loss at No. 15 Alabama and a 5-2 win over No. 64 Auburn at home.
Coming into the match on Friday against in-state rivals No. 19 Tennessee, the Commodores boast three ranked players--No. 34 Jackie Wu, No. 104 Lauren Mira, and No. 106 Marie Casares. Wu faced both Tennessee’s No. 28 Brynn Boren and No. 29 Natalie Pluskota during the fall at the Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Memphis, defeating Pluskota 7-6(5), 6-3 before going on to beat Boren 6-1, 6-1 in the finals to win the Regional.
Tennessee is on a three-game skid, while the Commodores are 6-4 in their last ten matches.
On Sunday, the Commodores will face an even stiffer challenge with No. 7 Georgia and their four ranked players. Georgia is 15-2 (5-1) headed into the weekend, and are undefeated on the road.
Freshman Ashleigh Antal and Nelly Radeva look to extend their winning streaks in singles to four in the match on Friday. The two lead the team in wins this spring, with Radeva holding a 16-2 record, and Antal a 14-3 record.
The matches mark the last full weekend of matches at home for the season. Vanderbilt hits the road next weekend against Ole Miss and Mississippi State, and returns for a single match against Kentucky on the 14th to wrap up the regular season.
