WTN hits road for weekend matches

The Vanderbilt Commodores jumped up the rankings to the No. 22 spot, but face a stiff challenge this weekend against the No. 2 Florida Gators on Friday, and the No. 38 South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday.  

Florida moved up from the No. 15 spot after beating then-No. 5 Tennessee 7-0 on Friday and then-No. 4 Georgia 4-3 Sunday to open the SEC season. South Carolina dropped 16 spots after suffering back-to-back losses to Georgia Friday and Tennessee Sunday , with 6-1 and 4-3 decisions.

Meanwhile, the Commodores opened their SEC slate at home with 7-0 sweeps over both Arkansas and LSU.  The Dores have two ranked singles players in No. 29 Jackie Wu and No. 98 Lauren Mira. The two are ranked as the No. 19 doubles pair, while Wu and Alex Leatu, who have been playing in the No. 2 position for doubles, are ranked No. 50.

Florida boasts five top-50 ranked individuals, including the No. 1 player, Allie Will. South Carolina has three players ranked on the ITA’s most recent list.

The match at Florida starts at 4:00 pm while the Dores start early on Sunday at South Carolina with a 12:00 match.
