Vandy closes road swing with two top 20 matches

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 15th-ranked Vanderbilt women's tennis team will look for redemption this week after an 0-3 showing at National Team Indoors. The Commodores will get that chance, facing two top 20 programs on the road this weekend. On Saturday, Vandy will face 18th-ranked Baylor in Waco, Texas before making the two hour trip south for a Sunday afternoon match with the 17th-ranked Texas Longhorns.

Saturday's match with the Bears is set to begin at 1 p.m., with Sunday's match beginning at noon.

Baylor is off to a 7-1 start on the season, with its lone loss coming at the hands of No. 2 Florida. The Bears are 4-1 against ranked opponents this season.

BU is led by 59th-ranked Kiah Generette who is 5-2 in dual play. Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle lead Baylor in doubles with a 6-1 record.

Vanderbilt is 5-1 all-time against Baylor, winning the last match 5-2 last season, in Waco.

Texas (3-4) features two ranked singles players, led by No. 24 Breaunna Addison and No. 77 Ratnika Batra. Elizabeth Begley is joined by Batra to make up the 60th-ranked doubles team by the ITA.

Vanderbilt remained at No. 15 in this weeks ITA rankings. Leading the Commodores is No. 48 Georgina Sellyn, who is the only VU player to remain in the rankings. Courtney Colton made her ITA rankings debut this week at No. 114.

Ashleigh Antal and Sydney Campbell jumped five spots to No. 23 this week after starting the year 8-3. Lauren Mira and Sellyn made their doubles ranking debut at No. 53 after starting 7-0.

 

 

Following the weekend in Texas it'll be back to Nashville for the 2014 home opener against Memphis on Friday, February 21.
