Mira earns SEC weekly honors

Jan. 30, 2013

NASHVILLE – Junior Lauren Mira has been named the SEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for her performance during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, it was announced by the conference Wednesday morning.

Mira is the first weekly award winner since Keilly Ulery was named the SEC Player of the Week in 2011. It also marks the first weekly honor for Mira.

Texas A&M's Stefania Hristov was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

Mira was a key figure in helping Vanderbilt advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. She won both singles matches, including a win over the 42nd-ranked player (Elizabeth Epstein) and both doubles matches. Mira and Courtney Colton upset the 11th-ranked duo in the country from Illinois.

She played in the No. 3 singles position versus Illinois and No. 2 position versus Yale in which both wins helped set the tone for Vanderbilt and get out to an early lead on both opponents. Mira is 2-0 versus ranked singles opponents this season and 8-4 overall this season.

The Baton Rouge, La., native has a career record of 64-22 in singles competition.

Mira and the Commodores host No. 14 Northwestern Thursday at the Currey Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
