NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis begins the spring season with a trip south to Coral Gables, Fla., for the Miami Invitational this weekend (Jan. 18-20).
The 26th-ranked Commodores will use the Miami Invitational to prepare for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Oxford, Miss., Jan. 25-28. In the first action of the second semester, head coach Geoff Macdonald is excited about where his team is heading into the weekend.
"I feel like we're in a pretty good place, we're conditioning well,” Macdonald explained. “The freshmen are adjusting and that's what we want to do, so I feel good where we are as a team. I think the team is learning more on concentrating and focusing. They are learning more about the competitive, tenacious mentality you need to have to play at this level. The practice sets have been the best we’ve had here in years.”
The three-day event includes host, No. 9 Miami, No. 11 Texas and No. 14 Texas A&M at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Vanderbilt begins action on Friday morning against Texas A&M in doubles at 8 a.m. CT.
The Commodores take on No. 24 Illinois in the first round of action at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Oxford, Miss. Jan. 25-28.
