NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the spring tennis season just weeks away, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team is continuing their presence on the ITA rankings. In the preseason poll, which was released on Tuesday, the Commodores hold the No. 26 team ranking. Vanderbilt has five singles players and four doubles pairs ranked in the top 125. The Southeastern Conference continues to be one of the top conferences, with 10 teams ranked in the top 75, and six members in the top 30.
Freshman Alex Leatu is the top-ranked Commodore, heading into the spring season ranked No. 50. She posted a 7-3 record in fall tournaments. Senior Rachael Dillon is ranked No. 64, while Jackie Wu follows at No. 83.
Coming off a 10-win fall, junior Chelsea Preeg is ranked No. 89, and freshman Lauren Mira holds the No. 119 ranking. In Mira’s first collegiate tournament season, she was second on the team with 11 victories, which included wins over several SEC opponents.
The duo of Leatu and Dillon lead the Commodores with a No. 20 ranking, followed by Mira and Erica Robertson at No. 23. These pairs both posted a 6-1 record in fall tournaments. Preeg and Mira, who tallied a 5-2 record in the fall, are ranked No. 41 and Preeg and Wu, who together accumulated five wins, hold the No. 53 ranking.
The Commodores host Northwestern on January 21 to open up the spring season.
