VU women ranked No. 26 in first poll of 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis is ranked No. 26 in the latest ITA Rankings that came out Friday morning.

The Commodores are one of 12 SEC teams ranked.

Vanderbilt also has three Commodores ranked in the women’s national singles rankings. Marie Casares is the highest ranked Commodores at No. 91 in the country, while freshmen Courtney Colton and Frances Altick rank No. 102 and No. 115, respectively.

Casares completed the fall season with a 6-3 record in singles competition, while also going 8-2 in doubles with Ashleigh Antal

Colton led the Commodores with an 8-2 record in singles play. The freshman from Davie, Fla., wasted little time adjusting to collegiate competition. Colton also went 7-3 in doubles, as she split time with partners Maggie Leavell and Lauren Mira.

Altick is already known as an extremely hard worker after only one semester on campus. She finished the fall with a 4-2 singles record and 3-2 doubles record. 

Vandy kicks off the spring season at the Miami Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla., Jan. 18-20.
