CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Vanderbilt women's tennis team continued its outstanding play as they racked up 11 more singles wins and three doubles wins at the third day of the Wilson/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Saturday. Through the first three days of the Tournament the `Dores have dominated its opposition, going a combined 19-2 in singles and 9-0 in doubles.
After starting the tournament with a 64-player field in the main singles draw, the tournament is down to final eight players. More impressively, five of the eight players in the quarterfinals are Commodores (Newman, Preeg, Wu, Steinbauer and Ulery).
On the doubles side, Vanderbilt's three teams remained undefeated on the weekend as they all advanced to Sunday's semifinals.
The sophomore duo of Robertson and Steinbauer won arguably its biggest match of the fall season on Saturday as they knocked off the top-seeded team of Rosalia Alda and Zsofia Zubor. With the win, Steinbauer and Robertson improve its record to 7-0.
The No. 3 seeded team of Preeg and Wu once again showed why they were awarded a top-three seed in the 64-team field as they defeated East Tennessee State's Paula Jaime and Karina Kedzo, 9-8 and five in the tiebreaker. With the win, Preeg and Wu improve to 10-3 this fall. Including winners of six of their last seven matches. The sophomore tandem will face Tennessee's Maria Sorbello and Kata Szekely in tomorrow's semifinals.
The senior duo of Blatt and Newman were also victorious on Saturday as they edged Kelly Holtzhausan and Yevgenyia Stupak of East Tennessee State, 9-8 and four in the tiebreaker. The senior duo will square off against Robertson and Steinbauer in Sunday's semifinals. Play will resume on Sunday from the campus of University of Cincinnati.
