Dores fall at No. 5 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – No. 16 Vanderbilt fell to the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Commodores dropped to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in SEC play, while Georgia improved to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in conference action.
Georgia took control of the match early by winning the doubles point. Makenzie Craft and Maho Kowase defeated Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares, 8-1, in the No. 2 doubles spot. At the No. 3 position, Mia King and Lilly Kimbell took down Frances Altick and Georgina Sellyn, 8-4.
Fuller then gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead after defeating Antal in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2. The loss for Antal is the first of the SEC season (6-1) and snaps a six-match win streak. Antal is 18-5 overall this season and 13-2 in dual action.
Georgia would go on to win singles at position Nos. 1, 2 and 3 to clinch the match. Seventh-ranked (Lauren) Herring defeated Mira, 6-4, 6-2 in the top spot of the lineup. Kowase then defeated Casares, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2, while Silvia Garcia knocked off Colton, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Sellyn and Altick recorded the lone singles victories of the day for Vanderbilt. In the No. 5 spot, Sellyn battled back to win an intense three-set match, 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-5. The freshman improved to 17-6 overall this season and 6-1 in the SEC.
Altick provided a win in the No. 6 spot over Craft, 6-3, 7-6(3). The Monroe, La., native is tied for the team lead in wins during the dual season at 13-3 and also sporting a 6-1 record in SEC play.
The Commodores take on No. 9 Tennessee Sunday at 9 a.m. CT in Knoxville before traveling to Auburn next Friday at 3 p.m. and Alabama next Sunday at 1 p.m.
