No. 11 Vanderbilt shuts out Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 11 Vanderbilt women's tennis team took care of business Firday afternoon shutting out the 47th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, 4-0. The Commodores will host No. 3 Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Vanderbilt (13-4, 6-1 SEC) picked up the win in Nashville after a four-match road trip, where it went 3-1. Tennessee fell to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in SEC play.
The Commodores got out to a good start winning the doubles point for the third-consecutvie match.
The No. 3 team of Marie Casares and Frances Altick were in total control, cruising to an 8-1 win over Ambika Pande and Vicotoria Olivarez. Vandy's top team of No. 30 Sydney Campbell and Ashleigh Antal clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Brittany Lindl and Joanna Henderson.
In singles the `Dores got off to slow start, but were able to regroup and win all six first sets.
Campbell picked up the first win for the Commodores at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4 over Henderson.
Casares would put the `Dores up 3-0 with her 19th-straight win out of the No. 4 position. The Vandy junior won 6-4 in the first before winning the second set 9-7 in the tiebreak.
The `Dores clinched the match with 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-0 win at one by No. 63 Georgina Sellyn. Sellyn knocked off No. 102 Eve Repic to clinch the third-straight win for the Commodores.
Vanderbilt will be back in action on Sunday against the third-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. The match is set for 1 p.m. at the Currey Tennis Center.
