VU drops tight match at TCU, 4-3
Feb. 17, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas - Vanderbilt's women's tennis team came up just short in its quest of sweeping two road matches in the Lone Star State. One day after topping No. 18 Baylor, 5-2, Vanderbilt ended its two-match Texas road trip with a 4-3 loss at No. 34 TCU on Sunday.
The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches provided the most suspense, as each match went to the tiebreak. Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares recorded the lone win for Vanderbilt over Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram, 9-8. Frances Altick and Georgina Sellyn fell in a heartbreaker, 9-8, to Gabi Barbosa and Simona Parajova.
Casares won her match at No. 4 over Nichols, 6-2, 6-2. The win was her 12th of the season. Altick recorded her 10th win of the season with her victory at No. 5 over the Horned Frogs’ Denti, 6-3, 6-2. Antal delivered her sixth-straight win, as she defeated Sundaram in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Colton was defeated by Stefanie Tan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, while Sellyn fell to the hands of Parajova, 6-1, 6-3.
Vanderbilt will conclude its non-conference schedule on Feb. 27 when the Commodores host Memphis at the Currey Tennis Center.
