VU finishes second in Miami
Jan. 20, 2013 CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 26 Vanderbilt wrapped up the final day of competition at the Miami Invitational on Sunday with a second-place finish. The Commodores came up one point shy of first-place No. 9 Miami. Miami won the tournament with 87 total points, followed by Vanderbilt (86), Texas (85) and Texas A&M (81). Vanderbilt ended Sunday with 35 points, which was the highest total of the four teams. The Commodores played No. 14 Texas A&M in singles and No. 11 Texas in doubles on the final day. Vanderbilt picked up four singles wins on Sunday led by Georgina Sellyn’s upset over the third-ranked player in the country from Texas A&M, Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar in two sets, 6-3, 6-4. No. 91 Marie Casares needed just two sets to win her match over Stefania Hristov, 6-2, 6-1. Lauren Mira defeated Anna Mamalat, 6-3, 6-4, while No. 102 Courtney Colton pulled the upset on No. 82 Wen Sun, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles play, Mira and Colton defeated the Longhorns’ Breaunna Addison and Noel Scott, 8-6. Antal and Casares registered the second and final doubles victory over Elizabeth Begley and Aeriel Ellis, 8-3. Vanderbilt will travel to Oxford, Miss., for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, which is a four-day event (Jan. 25-28). Sunday’s Singles Results Doubles Results
