VU ends day two in Miami with five wins
Jan. 19, 2013 CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 26 Vanderbilt wrapped up the second day of competition at the Miami Invitational on Saturday. Vanderbilt competed against No. 11 Texas in singles and No. 9 Miami in doubles. The Commodores came away with three wins in singles play and two wins in doubles action. No. 102 Courtney Colton recorded a win versus Texas’ Elizabeth Begley, 7-6, 6-1. The win is the first singles victory of the spring for the talented freshman from Davie, Fla. Georgina Sellyn defeated the Longhorns’ Juliana Gajic, 6-1, 6-1, while fellow freshman Frances Altick picked up the third singles victory with her win over Lina Padegimaite, 7-6 (7), 6-2. In doubles action versus Miami, Courtney Colton and Georgina Sellyn defeated Melissa Bolivar and Clementina Riobueno, 8-4. Frances Altick and Ashleigh Antal won a tough match versus the Hurricanes’ Brittany Dubins and Kelsey Laurente, 8-7. Play resumes at 8 a.m. CT on Sunday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
