Dores welcome Alabama Friday
Oct. 25, 2012
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s swimming will host SEC foe Alabama in a dual on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Centennial Sportsplex. Admission is free.
Friday’s meet will be the second of five home meets for the Commodores this season. Vanderbilt is coming off two weeks of rest since its last competition when the Commodores hosted LSU.
Vanderbilt enters the dual 0-1 overall and in the SEC, while the Crimson Tide comes to Nashville 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action. Alabama defeated Delta State (190-85) in its season opener and then fell at Auburn, 182-61, on Oct. 12.
“We have to be mentally prepared to compete and to compete at the level that will give us a chance to be successful,” said Vanderbilt head coach Jeremy Organ. “It’s always exciting to be able to swim at home in front of friends and family and the Commodore fans.”
Against LSU, freshman Jenn Mann picked up wins in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, while also managing to break two school records in those races. Her times in those two races rank in the top half of the SEC so far this season.
For her efforts, Mann was named the SEC Female Freshman of the Week (Oct. 16) following her record-breaking performance.
Sophomore Chrissy Oberg won the 200 backstroke for the only other win versus the Tigers.
The action on Friday also marks the beginning of homecoming weekend for Vanderbilt.
The Commodores are back in the pool Nov. 3, when Vandy hosts Tulane and Western Kentucky for non-conference competition at the Centennial Sportsplex.
