VU to host Evansville on Senior Day
Jan. 11, 2013
NASHVILLE – After nearly two months since the last swim meet, Vanderbilt is ready to get back in the pool for competition, as the Commodores host Evansville at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Centennial Sportsplex.
The meet will also serve as Senior Day for six Commodore swimmers. Erika Deardorf, Jess Eccher, Betsy Galenti, Sarah Lynch, Chelsea Morey and Amy Salce will all be recognized prior to the beginning of the meet for their efforts at Vanderbilt the last four years.
Even though Saturday’s meet is Senior Day, it is not the final home meet of the 2012-13 season. Vanderbilt wraps up the regular season at the Centennial Sportsplex on Feb. 2, versus Arkansas-Little Rock.
Eager to get back in the pool, head coach Jeremy Organ has liked what he has seen from his squad over the winter break, which included a training trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
“The team has done a great job of training and we are itching to get back to competition,” said the seventh-year head coach. “Our trip was just wonderful, everyone did a fantastic job of training while we were there and we had a little fun as well.”
Although the team enjoyed some fun in the sun, Organ put his team through some tough training in Puerto Rico.
“I will be looking to see some mental toughness, everyone is tired and broken down from the training, so we have to be mentally prepared to swim well and compete,” Organ said.
As the season heads into the final stretch, Organ realizes what this senior class has meant to the program.
“They have been an outstanding group of young ladies that were a catalyst for attracting the next level of swimmers when they came into the program,” Organ said. “Each one of them will leave a lasting impression with the team and we will sorely miss each and every one of them.”
Vanderbilt comes into Saturday’s meet with a 1-4 record overall and a second-place finish at the WKU Invitational in the team’s last meet.
The Commodores will hit the road for their final SEC dual meet of the season when Vandy travels to Tennessee on Jan. 30. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT.
