Sept. 26, 2013
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Coming off a tough overtime loss last weekend to open conference play against LSU, the Vanderbilt women's soccer team will hit the road for the first time in SEC play with contests against Alabama and Texas A&M.
The Commodores (3-4-2, 0-1-0 SEC) have been scoring at a high rate all season long. The team has scored 22 goals through its first nine games this season after scoring 24 all of last year and 17 the year prior. Cheyna Williams leads the team with eight goals, while four others have scored multiple times in 2013.
The 'Dores are 2-1 on the road this season with wins over Memphis and Wisconsin and a double overtime loss to Samford.
Alabama (2-6-0, 0-1-0 SEC) is set to host the Commodores after getting shutout by No. 8 Florida in its conference opener last weekend. Bama's two wins on the season have come over UAB and Georgia State.
Last season Vanderbilt hosted Alabama and played them to a 3-3 draw with goals coming from Kelsey Tillman (2) and Gena Inbusch. The Commodores hold an 11-3-4 record against the Crimson Tide since the series began in 1987.
Texas A&M (5-3-1, 0-1-0) will be looking to bounce back after falling in its SEC opener last weekend against Tennessee. The Aggies were ranked at No. 12 in the preseason rankings and have now slipped out of the top-25 following their loss to the Lady Vols.
Against Texas A&M, Vanderbilt is 2-4-0 with its last win coming in 1992. Last season the then No. 9 Aggies blanked the Commodores, 4-0 at the VU Soccer Complex.
