NASHVILLE, Tenn.. - The Vanderbilt women's soccer team will kick-off conference play, Saturday night, when they welcome LSU to the VU Soccer Complex. The game, set for 7:00 PM, will also be Youth League Day.
The Commodores (3-3-2) closed non-conference play last weekend going 1-1-0, with their win coming in shutout fashion over Georgia State, 4-0.
Entering their game with LSU, the 'Dores are second in the SEC in goals and goals per game with 21 and 2.62, respectively. The scoring has come largely in part because of the opportunities they are getting. Vanderbilt is also ranked third and fourth, respectively, in shots per game and shots on goal per game.
Sophomore Cheyna Williams has gotten the bulk of the scoring chances for Vanderbilt this season. The native of Hampton, Ga., leads the conference in both points (16) and goals scored (8).
LSU (4-3-1) comes to Nashville most recently picking up a shutout win over Rice, 1-0. The Tigers are 1-2 when playing in true road contests and have played their last four away from Baton Rouge.
Four Tigers have scored two or more goals this season, however, they are led by sophomore Fernanda Pina (3). Senior goalkeeper Megan Kinneman has posted five shutouts for LSU this year, including a 1-0 victory over No. 19 Southern Cal.
Saturday's matchup will also be Youth League Day. All kids who wear their jerseys get free admission, with parents paying only five dollars. Mr. C and the Vanderbilt cheerleaders and dance team will all be in attendance. There will also be snow cones, face tattoos and a bounce house available.
