MEMPHIS & NASHVILLE - The Vanderbilt women's soccer team will travel west down Interstate 40 for its first road contest of the 2013 season, playing at Memphis' Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Friday, August 30, at 7 p.m. CT.
Separated by just 200 miles, the two programs have played only four times in their history and the series is knotted at two wins apiece. Last season in Nashville, the Tigers captured a 2-1 victory in double overtime.
Vanderbilt tied Oklahoma State, 2-2, on Sunday to move to 0-1-1 on the year. Head coach Derek Greene started four freshman and five sophomores against the Cowgirls, with newcomer Krystina Iordanou scoring her first career goal before senior Abby Carr stepped up to finsih a penalty kick won by sophomore Cheyna Williams.
Memphis is 2-0-0 on the year, having defeated Samford and Missouri at home last weekend. Senior Christabel Oduro contributed one goal and one assist to the Tigers' opening weekend.
The Commodores will return home on Sunday to play host to Rice in a rare Sunday evening affair. Kick-off between the Commodores and Owls is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
