BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a superb weekend in net for the Commodores, redshirt-senior Kaitlyn Fahrner was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Fahrner is the first Commodore to earn an SEC player of the week award this season.
On Friday, Fahrner played one of her best games during her time at Vanderbilt. She stopped a barrage of Boston College shots early in the game to keep it deadlocked at 0-0. In the first 20 minutes alone, she had six saves on nine shots.
Once the Commodores took the lead in the 31st minute, Fahrner was determined to keep the lead and secure the win. She finished the night with 13 saves, which tied a career-high, and her first clean sheet of the season.
She was on top of her game again this past Sunday against UMass. Fahrner made five saves in the Commodores 3-1 win to sweep their weekend road trip.
Fahrner has 21 saves on the season, which is tied for the lead in the SEC. She is second in the league in saves per game with 5.25. Last season, she made 74 saves and led the league in saves per game with 5.29.
The Commodores will be back in action this Friday when they host the Music City Invitational. Rhode Island and Memphis will be the first game at 5:00 pm CT with Vanderbilt and Indiana to follow at approximately 7:30 pm CT.
