Over the past two months, Vanderbilt soccer has introduced members of its 2014 signing class. We continue with a defender/midfielder from Nashville: Claire Ramage
Claire Ramage, right, is one of eight freshman signees for the Vanderbilt soccer team.
The Vanderbilt soccer coaches didn’t have to look very far to find a National Merit Scholarship award winner and seasoned soccer player.
Recent Harpeth Hall grad Claire Ramage offers both for the Commodores.
The defender/midfielder from Nashville helped the Bears win the 2013 Division II, Class AA state championship last fall. In the classroom, she was a honor roll student her last three years and received a National Merit scholarship from Vanderbilt. Only 2,500 students in the country receive the honor.
“Claire is a tireless worker and competes every time she is on the field or in the classroom,” coach Derek Greene said. “When we have seen her with her teams in the past she is vocal and leads not only by example, but also in making sure that everyone on the field is handling their responsibilities. Winning matters to Claire and the type of mentality she is going to bring to our team is going to help us every day in training and in games.”
Ramage, who has played soccer since she was five years old, was a two-year starter at Harpeth Hall and was named to the All-Region Team in 2013. She played at the club level for the Tennessee Soccer Club. She plans to major in biology or ecological sciences.
