Vanderbilt will open its gates to top-tier men’s soccer this summer.
The Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Complex will be the home for Nashville FC, a member of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). The league, which consists of 29 teams, features current and former college players along with international talent.
Nashville FC, in its inaugural season, will play five home games at Vanderbilt, beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday against the Atlanta Silverbacks. Admission is $7 for adults and free for children under 12.
“When the guys at Nashville FC approached us about trying to use our facility for the summer, it was a no-brainer to try to make it happen,” Vanderbilt women’s soccer coach Derek Greene said. “(Athletic director) David Williams is a big fan of trying to get the community involved in any sport and facility that we have here at Vanderbilt. It does not always work due to scheduling and other issues we might face during the summer, but this is a huge chance to showcase our facility and high-level soccer at the same time.
“I think fans that come out that have never been to our soccer stadium will be impressed with the facility, and at the same time give the youth of Nashville a chance to see very experienced collegiate and professional players play the game.”
Nashville FC started the season two weeks ago and is off to a 1-0-1 start and in a three-way tie atop the Southeast Conference standings.
After the home opener on Saturday, Nashville FC will play four more games at the Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Complex – June 13, June 14, June 21 and July 4.
“I'm tremendously excited because, without a doubt, this is the top soccer facility in Nashville," Nashville FC coach Bryan Johnson said. "It was my first, second, and third choice, and I'm thrilled we got it. Plus, a big thanks to the Vanderbilt women's soccer coaches and the rest of the athletic department as well. They really went to bat for us.”
