NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt head soccer coach, Ronnie Woodard announced the Commodores 2010 schedule on Wednesday as ten home matches, including contests against Big Ten powers, Wisconsin and Minnesota, highlight the 2010 schedule.

“I am very excited about our 2010 schedule,” Woodard said. “Our schedule features 10 NCAA tournament teams, which will prove to be a big challenge for our team. “

The Commodores begin the season with an exhibition game against cross-town rival Belmont. Vanderbilt defeated Belmont 3-0 in the regular season last year.

The ‘Dores then make a quick trip to Birmingham, Ala. to face UAB early in the season and then return home for a couple of weeks for a three-game homestand with NCAA participant Minnesota, Tennessee Tech and Southern Mississippi.

The non-conference home schedule the first couple weeks of the season will prove to be a challenge for Woodard’s team, who qualified for the SEC Tournament for the 13th-time in school history and the first time since 2006.

“Our challenging out of conference schedule will help prepare us for an always difficult SEC season,” Woodard said.

Vanderbilt will compete against perennial national powers, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech at the Virginia Tech Tournament (Sept. 10-12) before returning home for a four-game homestand, including the beginning of SEC play against South Carolina on September 24.

“We are really looking forward to the high level of competition we will be facing this fall,” assistant coach Derek Greene commented. “The Virginia Tech Tournament and two Big Ten teams will all be difficult, but we’re ready for the challenge.”

The Commodores went 11-7-1 overall and 5-6 in the SEC last season, but Woodard’s sights are set on the incomparable task of winning the SEC this fall.

“We are very focused and committed to winning an SEC championship this fall,” Woodard said. “We believe that we made great strides last season, however still left our team feeling unfulfilled. We are setting our sights high, and not settling for average. We are using last season as a building block for our success this fall.”

The SEC Tournament will return to the friendly confines of Orange Beach, Ala. beginning on November 3.
