2013 Soccer signees: Claire Anderson
April 26, 2013
NASHVILLE - Vanderbilt soccer completed its impressive 2013 recruiting class when Seattle native Claire Anderson became the eighth prep student-athlete to join the program beginning next fall, a signing that Head Coach Derek Greene announced Friday.
Anderson played for Coach James Allard at Lakeside School in Seattle. She has been named a Seattle Times All-Metro Mountain League selection three times, earning first-team honors in 2012. Anderson missed her sophomore campaign due to injury after helping lead the Lions to the state quarterfinals in 2009.
"When we found out about Claire very late in the process for the Class of 2013, we felt like we had found the best player that was still looking for her college home," Greene said. "Claire comes from a great club in the Crossfire Premier from Washington State, and her experience playing at a high youth level will be a big key in trying to transition into our conference. She is the essence of what we look for in the overall student-athlete here at Vanderbilt."
Anderson played for Coach Richard Reece with Crossfire Premier, appearing with the '95 Elite Clubs National League squad and the '94A team. Her '95 side finished the 2012 ECNL National Championship in 12th place overall. This season, her squad ranks in the nation's Top 10. Anderson is listed as a forward for her club side, but has played defense for her high school team.
"You don't come across a player with Claire's versatility every day," Greene said. "She is very comfortable up top as a forward with her back to pressure, but she easily can move into a centerback role where she reads the game very well as a defender. That is a special trait to have. Claire's height and strength are an added bonus to our program and we are excited to see how she fits on our roster this fall."
Off the pitch, Anderson is an excellent student that fits Vanderbilt's vision of the well-rounded student-athlete. She was named a National Merit semifinalist last year and also was designated an Advanced Placement Scholar.
