2013 Soccer signees: Angela Waddle

April 22, 2013

The Vanderbilt soccer team added another gem to its 2013 recruiting class when Chicago-area star Angela Waddle decided to play for Head Coach Derek Greene's Commodores, the program announced Monday.

"We are very excited to add a player of Angela's caliber to our program," Greene said. "She is a tough, hardworking midfielder that has a chance to come in and compete right away. Angela is demanding of herself as a leader and player, and that is exactly the type of attitude we want in our program. Excellence is something she strives for in all aspects of her life and we could not be happier about having her join us."

WaddleA native of Lake Forest, Illinois, Waddle becomes the seventh member of Vanderbilt's 2013 recruiting class. A four-star recruit, Waddle is the fourth player on Top Drawer Soccer's IMG Academy 150 to commit to Vanderbilt. She is ranked as the fifth-best player in the midwest and the 15th-best midfielder in the country.

Waddle attends Lake Forest High School but has chosen to play club ball year-round instead of competing for the Scouts. She competes for Coach Rory Dames Eclipse Select 95/96, an Elite Clubs National League side.

"Angela comes from one of the best clubs in the country," Greene said. "I know the attitude and work ethic playing for the Eclipse and for Coach Dames have rubbed off on her and that will bode well for her trying to make an impact on our roster. When you combine that training environment along with her exciting family athletic ties, we know Angela has a chance to work her way into a good role for us in the future."

Waddle has captained her Eclipse Select 95/96 for five years. The squad placed fifth at ECNL Nationals last season. In 2011, her team captured the United States Youth Soccer Association Region II championship after winning the State Cup two years earlier.

Competing for the ODP regional team in 2009, Waddle participated in the interregional tournament and traveled to Costa Rica as the Region II champions. Waddle was invited to the U.S. U-14 Girls National Team Camp and later was an ID2 selection in 2010 and 2011.
