NASHVILLE - The Vanderbilt soccer program will offer four camp sessions this summer for players of every skill level, Head Coach Derek Greene announced Monday. Two weeks of day camp will be offered in June, with a pair of residential camps following in July.
"Camp is always a very exciting time of the year for our staff and players," Greene said. "In a way, we're kicking off our season by getting back on the field together after a couple months off. In our June day camps, we have a great opportunity to share that excitement with kids in our community by exposing them to the game in a fun environment."
Two day camp sessions--designed for boys and girls ages 5 to 13 that are learning the fundamental skills of soccer--will run Monday through Friday beginning June 4 and June 18. Individual instruction will emphasize the use of correct techniques, while team concepts will be taught through small-sided games. Both full- and half-day options are available.
In July, two different overnight camps will be available. The four-day Elite Residential Camp begins on July 15. The Elite Residential Camp is designed to improve the skill level and tactical understanding of all girls, ages 12 to 18.
"Our elite residential camp is geared more toward players with a good bit of soccer experience that want to take their game to the next level," Greene said. "We recruit out of our residential camps, so there is always a very high level of play at those camps."
Vanderbilt will conclude the summer camp season with its four-day High School Team Camp beginning on July 21. The camp for girls high school teams features an intense training environment, as an experienced staff of coaches from throughout the southeast will lead two training sessions per day before teams play full-sided games each evening.
"This is only our second year for the high school team camp," Greene said. "The camp had great success last year and nearly has doubled in size this summer. The team camp offers squads a great opportunity to come in and compete against some high level competition as they get ready for their season."
