Over the next few weeks, vucommodores.com will introduce Vanderbilt's 2011 women's soccer signees. Our first profile is Tampa, Fla., native Taylor Richardson.
Richardson attends the Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, where she played defense for Coach Ken Roberts' Buccaneers. Heading into her senior season, she had been a four-time Florida Athletic Coaches 3A All-State selection. Richardson led her squad to the 2010 state championship game as a junior after a pair of district championships in 2008 and 2009.
A team captain for the past two seasons, the 5'5" Richardson has been named Berkeley's Most Valuable Player four times. She also has lettered in track, all the while excelling in the classroom by making the Headmaster's List as a sophomore and junior.
Outside of high school, Richardson competes for Coach Garth Pollonais' Clearwater Chargers. She has been a captain of the team for two years, leading them to the 2010 Disney Qualifier Championship. Richardson also has participated in the Olympic Developmental Program, traveling to Costa Rica with the Region III team in 2010.
This fall, Richardson was rated among ESPN RISE's Top 11 players in the state of Florida. Top Drawer Soccer chose her as one of the Top 100 players in the country, and No. 4 among players from the Sunshine State.
