NASHVILLE -- Vanderbilt and Auburn played to a 1-1 draw Friday at the VU Soccer Complex in a game that marked the midpoint of the 2010 Southeastern Conference women's schedule.
The Commodores (6-7-2, 2-3-2) have eight points in the league, good for eighth place overall with five games remaining.
Vanderbilt senior Molly Kinsella scored her third goal of the season to put the Commodores on the board in the 16th minute. Auburn failed to clear the ball out of the six-yard box and Kinsella slid in to poke past the AU keeper and inside the far post.
Kinsella is the SEC's only finalist for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, and fans are encouraged to vote for her daily at seniorclassaward.com
Auburn equalized in the 81st minute. AU's Julie King made a nice run to get on the end of a Tasha Prentice cross and head it into the back of the net on the near post.
Statistically, the game was fairly even. Vanderbilt took 19 shots to 16 by Auburn. The Tigers did have more corner kicks (11-3), but Vanderbilt took more free kicks due to 17 Auburn fouls.
Vanderbilt goalkeeper Rachel Bachtel continued her solid play of late, making nine saves including three in extra time.
The Commodores next will face SEC Western Division leader Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. CT at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
