AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn rallied from an early 1-0 deficit with two goals in just over a minute in the first half to defeat Vanderbilt 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the AU Soccer Complex.
The Commodores (3-5-2) got on the board first, as freshman Hannah Gonzales scored her second goal of the season at the three minute mark. Fellow freshman Molly Kinsella fed Gonzales who scored from inside the six.
The Tigers (6-2-1) tied the game at the 21:48 point on Chelsea Yauch's first goal of the season. She took an assist from Becca Howell and scored from 18 yards out.
Howell then put AU up to stay just a little over a minute later, scoring at the 22:59 mark from inside the six. Caitlin King and Kara Kasten were credited with the assists.
Auburn finished with a 14-8 shot advantage. The Commodores had five shots on goal, with Tiger keeper Allison Whitworth finishing with four saves.
Gonzales and Molly Kinsella led VU with two shots each, while Howell and King led Auburn with three on the day.
The Commodores will close out their six-match road swing against Florida and South Carolina next weekend. VU will take on the Gators at 7 p.m. next Friday and will cap the skein off with a 1 p.m. tilt against South Carolina on Sunday.
