NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Vanderbilt women's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule Sunday with a 2-0 loss at the hands of Wisconsin at the VU Soccer Complex.
The Commodores controlled the pace of play for much of the day, holding a 10-6 advantage in shots over Wisconsin. But the Badgers scored twice in a seven-minute span, with both goals coming decidedly against the run of play.
In the 33rd minute, Wisconsin turned a Vanderbilt corner kick into a quick counter attack. Erin Jacobsen dribbled down the right side and played a diagonal ball to Laurie Nosbusch behind the VU defense. Inside the 18-yard box, Nosbusch finished low inside the near post.
In the 39th minute, Lindsey Hamann played a ball down the right sideline and Lauren Cochlin beat one defender into the penalty area. She shot the ball into the top of the netting past VU goalkeeper Rachel Bachtel.
Wisconsin Michele Dalton made six saves, including a number of point-blank stops. She also had some help from the woodwork on a Duggan Hahn attempt in the 31st minute that hit the crossbar.
Vanderbilt closes out its non-conference schedule with a 4-4 record. The Commodores will open Southeastern Conference play on Friday, Sept. 24, when South Carolina visits the VU Soccer Complex.
On Sunday, the Commodores will play in their first televised game of the season when Florida comes to Nashville. That day, Vanderbilt athletics will be collecting canned goods as part of the SEC's Together We CAN initiative. The first 500 fans that donate a canned good will receive a free Vanderbilt soccer scarf.
