Three future 'Dores named UA All-Americans
May 21, 2013
BALTIMORE - Three signees for the Vanderbilt women's lacrosse program will been chosen to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic, officials announced Tuesday. Eighty-eight of the nation's top boys and girls high school seniors will compete on Saturday, July 6 at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.
Jill Doherty (Reading, Mass.) and Callahan Kent (Norwell, Mass.), club teammates for Mass Elite, will compete together for the Girls North Team at the eighth-annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. Caroline Peters (Rockville, Md.) will represent the Girls South Team.
"We are not surprised that Jill, Callahan and Caroline have been named All-Americans," VU Head Coach Cathy Swezey said. "They are all such strong players who compete at the highest level every time they take the field. We can't wait to have them here and have them compete for us."
The trio of future Commodores were joined by five other prep standouts in Vanderbilt's 2013 signing class, which Coach Swezey announced last month.
Under Armour All-Americans are selected by a panel of lacrosse experts from Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The yearlong selection process includes input from college and high school coaches from across the country as well as nominations from the public. The selected graduating seniors will experience a host of events beginning on Thursday, July 4. The weekend culminates with the Under Armour All-America Girls Classic on Saturday, July 6 at 5 p.m. ET, followed by the Boys Classic at 8 p.m. ET.
The Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic also includes the Underclassmen tournament that will feature the top underclass boys and girls players from the classes of 2014-2016 from 10 regions across the country. The three-day Underclassmen tournament wraps up on Sunday, July 7 with the girls and boys finals at 3:30 p.m. on the fields outside of Unitas Stadium.
