Vanderbilt senior attacker Carly Linthicum has been named to the 2013 All-West/Mid-West Region team, IWLCA officials announced Tuesday. The Salisbury, Md., native was one of 16 second-team selections in the region.
This season, Linthicum led the Commodores with 63 points on 49 goals and 14 assists. Linthicum's goal tally was Vanderbilt's highest scoring output since Sarah Downing scored 55 goals in 2009, and marks the Commodores' fourth-highest single season scoring output in school history.
"Carly really came into her own this year," VU Head Coach Cathy Swezey said. "While her offensive output was staggering at times, she was also a key part of a senior class that helped lead our young team through adversity when the results just weren't falling in our favor. This honor is well-deserved."
After scoring five goals in each of Vanderbilt's first three games this season, Linthicum would contribute four or more goals to a total of eight games. A two-year starter on the Vanderbilt attack, Linthicum finished her collegiate career with 99 total points, including 75 goals.
Linthicum earned first-team All-American Lacrosse Conference honors last week at the conference tournament in Baltimore. She will graduate this week from Vanderbilt's Peabody College with a degree in human and organizational development. She has accepted a position in human capital federal consulting at Deloitte.
The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with selection on one of the All-Regional teams. These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 17. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on May 25, 2013 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
