NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Vanderbilt senior goalkeeper Brooke Shinaberry has been named the WomensLax.com Player of the Week after leading the Commodores to a pair of wins over Top 10 opponents.
The Millersville, Md., native capped an outstanding April by making a total of 22 saves in victories over No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 7 Duke. In five games this month, Shinaberry has allowed only 7.4 goals per game while stopping 56 percent of the shots she has faced.
Wednesday at Notre Dame, Shinaberry made 10 saves while allowing only six goals. She saved 12 shots against Duke to give Vanderbilt an 11-10 win on Senior Day.
Awards are coming from all directions for the fifth-year senior. Shinaberry was awarded the 2008 Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship earlier this month. She earned American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week honors on April 3 and was named "Miss Commodore" at Vanderbilt's annual Black & Gold Banquet.
Vanderbilt returns to action on Saturday, May 3, traveling to Evanston, Ill., to take part in the 2008 ALC Tournament. The Commodores have earned the No. 2 seed in the event.
